Stoneman Douglas '20 Nick Dibitetto commits to Belmont Abbey

Stoneman Douglas faceoff specialist and midfielder Nick Dibitetto has committed to play lacrosse at Belmont Abbey College, where he will bring a strong work ethic, and his valuable leadership qualities, which made him the heartbeat of the program during his time in Parkland. Belmont Abbey was 7-0 when 2020 play was halted due to COVID19 and was ranked #4 in the nation in division 2. Nick was a 2+ year stater on varsity and will join Kevin Horwitz '17 (NCAA's Florida Southern) and Brandon Huff '19 (MCLA's Florida Atlantic) as recent Stoneman Douglas faceoff specialists who will be playing lacrosse in college in 2021. Huff taught Nick about brute force and speed at the X while they shared time together on varsity. Horwitz was a 2 time All American (honorable mention) who won the primary faceoff responsibilities at Florida Southern in his freshman season, and had helped Dibitetto with his timing when they played club together with Stealth Lacrosse. Horwitz was the driving force for years showing Nick how to get it right. Dibitetto paid it back showing up early to practice regularly in high school so he could work with the underclassmen as well. Florida Southern has played Belmont Abbey during the past 3 seasons, so if they face each other again in 2021, we might have a chance to see the Stoneman Douglas understudy take on his master at the faceoff X of an NCAA game. With Dibitetto moving on to college, Matt Rassman '21 and Gabe MacKenzie '22 are expected to compete for playing time taking faceoffs at Stoneman Douglas next season.
